About Therapeutic Massage
All massage feels great, whether done by a professional, or a spouse. What is the difference between therapeutic massage and a relaxing back rub from a friend?
A therapeutic massage is performed by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and can effectively treat acute and chronic musculoskeltal conditions, while promoting both physical and mental relaxation. The objective of therapeutic massage is to bring relief to a specific concern, whether it be low back pain, headache or stress.
Therapeutic massage involves working both the superficial and deeper muscle layers, as well as joints, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. Therapists use their hands, arms and elbows to work the tissue, most commonly on bare skin using oil or lotion; massage can be performed over clothing as well.
The treatment begins with assessing the client's condition by having the client fill out a health history form, asking questions and, if needed, by orthopaedic testing. A treatment plan is made to address both short and long term goals. A therapeutic massage may also include instructions for self care and remedial exercises.
All massage performed by our RMTs is therapeutic, whether it be purely for relaxation or to address a specific injury or chronic condition.

About Registered Massage Therapy
Registered massage therapists consistently provide the safest, most effective treatments. In order to be designated an RMT in Ontario, therapists must complete a 2,200 hour massage program at an accredited college and pass a province wide exam to be certified.
Students are trained in massage techniques, anatomy, pathology, neurology, ethics, safety and disease control, first aid, hydrotherapy, and specific treatments for a variety of injuries and health conditions.
Registered massage therapists and the places in which they work are regularly inspected by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario to ensure they are adhering to the standards and practices set forth in the Massage Therapy Act. In order to maintain registered status, massage therapists are required to continue their education and upgrade their skills on a regular basis.
Most supplemental health insurance providers only recognize Registered Massage. In the province of Ontario, only registered practitioners may use the designation " Massage Therapist."
All therapists at Know Your Body Best are registered and licensed under the Regulated Health Professions Act.
